Even More Famitsu News: Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy XI, and Dissidia

In addition to the Theatrhythm and Versus XIII articles in this weeks Famitsu, there was another article on a few more games. Here is what has surfaced thus-far on them… And yes, Final Fantasy XI is in this… Not XIV.

Kingdom Hearts 3D (Dream Drop Distance)

Despite the period of silence regarding this 3DS title, the development of the game is currently around 40-50%. Nomura confirmed the game will have yet another secret movie.

Tetsuya Nomura dropped some vague hints about the game: “XXX and XXX in Traverse Town!” being one of them. This is apparently supposed to be surprising. The game’s story is enigmatic and quite puzzling, he said. Kingdom Hearts 3D will touch on hidden data within Sora. One gameplay bit is that apparently you will be able to work your way to the rooftops

Kingdom Hearts’ Future

Regarding the future of the series, Nomura said those who are anticipating Kingdom Hearts III will (finally) find some answers in Kingdom Hearts 3D. The Xehanort part of the series will end in KHIII, he said. Nomura currently has a framework of some form in place for the continuation of the series after KHIII, with Sora remaining the first character. Regarding a possible HD remake for the past titles, Nomura would only say that separate from whether or not they release remakes, they are indeed looking into HD technology tests for past titles (no idea if this is for Kingdom Hearts only, or would include other series).

Dissidia’s Future

When Dissidia Duodecim was first release, Nomura said in Dengeki if there were to be another Dissidia title, it would not be a fighting-based game. Famitsu asked if Theatrhythm Final Fantasy was this game, and Nomura answered no, he meant something else.

Final Fantasy XI

As part of the general Square-Enix feature, Famitsu interviewed Hiromuchi Tanaka. Tanaka said they are currently investigating a straight port of the 8-year-old MMO to the Playstation Vita, but there is no solid plan at this point. Famitsu also asked Tanaka what he’d do were he CEO of Square-Enix, and he said that he’d revive the company trips and invest in company wellbeing.
